Serena and Paul’s wedding day at The Gage in Milwaukee was a heartfelt celebration years in the making. After 8.5 years together—and nearly a decade by the time they tied the knot—their story came full circle in the most joyful way. I had the unique honor of photographing their day, which was especially meaningful as Serena and I go way back to our college days. Watching her marry the love of her life (and reveal a new one on the way!) was such a privilege.
Their love story started in an unexpected moment of serendipity. After moving back to Wisconsin from NYC, Serena wasn’t exactly thrilled to be home—until she was invited to a mutual friend’s birthday party. At the bar, Paul noticed her right away and broke the ice with the perfect line: “You look like you need a shot.” Serena responded with her signature sass, unaware he was the birthday boy. That night, they talked for hours, and sparks quietly flew. When she saw his room filled with Star Wars and WWII memorabilia, she realized there might be something special about this guy. A casual date soon followed, and everything just clicked—no official titles, just an ease and chemistry that carried them through the years.
Their wedding was rich with emotion, culture, and personality. From the traditional Serbian “Buying of the Bride” to the joyful Kolo dancing, Paul and Serena brought their heritage to life in vibrant ways. One of the most memorable moments came during the cake cutting, when they surprised everyone with a gender reveal—it’s a girl! The joy was palpable. As cocktail hour wrapped, they gathered guests outside for the dramatic “Tossing of the Sito” over the second-story banister, a tradition that symbolizes prosperity and fertility.
The Gage’s industrial charm provided the perfect backdrop for the festivities, with warm string lights and exposed brick setting the tone. But what made the day truly unforgettable was the deep connection between Serena and Paul—the kind of love that’s been built over years of shared laughter, personal growth, and unwavering support. It was a wedding that didn’t just celebrate their past, but also the incredible future they’re building—soon as a family of three.
