It doesn’t get more Milwaukee than this, folks! Cydney and Mike were married on a beautiful summer day at the Church of the Gesu followed by a reception at Best Place at the Historic Pabst Brewery. Both venues have deep roots in Milwaukee. I just realized as I was putting this together that all of Mike and Cydney’s wedding vendors are also Milwaukee based! I’m feeling very proud to be a Milwaukee native right now, I love this city!!
It was fitting for Mike and Cydney, who met their freshman year at Marquette, to get married at the absolutely gorgeous Church of the Gesu. Both of them are Marquette alum and this church was a well known landmark on the Marquette campus. You can read more about Cydney and Mike’s love story on their engagement session blog post here. I could not get over the amazing architecture of this church, just stunning!
One of the musts photo spots if you’re getting married at Gesu Church is a stop at the historic St. Joan of Arc Chapel. As one of the oldest landmarks in Milwaukee, it was going through some necessary renovations, but we still made it work! During the rest of portrait time, we visited some of Milwaukee’s most iconic landmarks; Milwaukee Art Museum, the downtown skyline, and that famous orange sculpture that no one knows the name of (it’s called “The Calling” for those curious).
Mike and Cydney’s love for Milwaukee stretched into their reception venue choice at the Pabst Brewing Company. Also deeply, rooted into Milwaukee, this brewery was founded in 1844 as The Empire Brewery, later Best and Company, by brewer Jacob Best, which is where I’m guessing “Best Place” at Pabst Brewery came from! 😉 During the reception, Mike and Cydney took a few minutes to escape to the nearby rooftop for some amazing sunset portraits – and let me tell you, this had to be one of the best sunsets I’ve seen on a wedding day! I’m so glad we went, so worth it! It was the perfect end to a fabulous day!
