Wow, where to begin! It’s surreal to think this beautiful spring day at Lake Lawn Resort was finally here and that Ellen and Tim were about to get married! I vividly remember Ellen reaching out to me well over a year ago and we had an instant connection after our first chat! After photographing their amazing engagement session in Port Washington last summer (linked here), I was so excited for the wedding day to actually arrive!
Lake Lawn Resort has a deep history in the Delavan/Lake Geneva area with its residents and visitors who frequent the resort every year for a little getaway. It’s also a great place to get married, especially when you can host part of your wedding ceremony outdoors! Fun fact, the very first wedding I photographed almost a decade ago was at Lake Lawn. Being there for Ellen and Tim’s wedding brought back some old memories from those very early days. It seemed fitting that I would return to lakeside property for a wedding so soon after fulfilling my dreams of becoming a full time wedding photographer/videographer.
First off, you’re never going to meet a nicer person than Ellen! She is one of the sweetest and joyful people I have ever met! Her laugh and smile is infectious! Her mom and sisters helped her into her wedding dress. It fit her like a glove and made her look like a princess! I couldn’t stop making comments about the beautiful detailing of it all day. Ellen and I convinced Tim to break tradition a little and do a first look, which I know they enjoyed because it allowed them to finish up their portraits early and get to cocktail hour quicker! 🙂
It was a delightful temperature for this outdoor wedding at Lake Lawn and not a chance for rain all day. That is, until the very moment the ceremony was about to start, it started drizzling! However, it was only a brief shower, and then Ellen made her way down the long, winding path with her proud father at her side to meet her groom at the water’s edge. The ceremony, as Ellen put it, had “all the best parts” and was simple and to the point to make room for the best part of the night, the party!
The most adorable detail from the evening was the adorable wedding cake from Julie Michelle Cakes! The green details in the cake matched perfectly with the bridesmaid colored dresses. But the cutest detail was the little Great Dane statue that took a little “bite” out of the cake! He was a naughty boy! He represented the couple’s actual Great Dane at home who definitely would’ve caused some mischief if he was actually there! 😉
After some amazing food, cake, and warm wishes from speech-givers, it was time to party the night away!
Ellen and Tim, I’m so happy you had an amazing wedding day, despite a brief drizzle during the ceremony. Rain on your wedding day is good luck! 🙂 You won’t need luck, I know you two are going to have an amazing future together with your wonderful family and friends by your side!
