My final wedding of the 2020 season was one to remember! Gianna and Zach are the most adorable pair of high school sweethearts! After 10 years in their relationship, they officially tied the knot!! Let me just say, these two know how to adapt! I know during the course of their relationship, life has thrown them some curveballs. But what they didn’t probably expect was to plan their dream wedding during a pandemic! After their spring 2020 wedding plans were thrown out the window, they adapted and found a new venue and a new photographer (me!) for their winter 2020 wedding day.
Even though I’ve only known Gianna and Zach for about a month, we hit it off right away after our first meeting! They are fun, laid back, joyful, and obviously so in love!!
Veterans Terrace is such a beautiful venue to get married at and they really know how to do winter weddings well! The whole day flowed so wonderfully, and a lot of that has to do with the great staff there as well as the couple’s amazing planner Emily from the Simply Elegant Group. They all did a fabulous job keeping the events, drinks, and fun going!
In the spacious bridal suite, the girls got ready in their flannels, really embracing the winter vibe of the day. This was SUCH a sweet group of girls!! They all knew each other from high school and are super close and obviously care a lot about Gianna! The girls even surprised Gianna with a book full of letters and that clearly got the waterworks going!
After some emotional first looks between Gianna’s dad, the girls, and our bride and groom, it was time for bridal party portraits! It was a bit chilly, but everyone was an amazing sport and handled it all like a champ! In winter, a huge benefit of doing a first look before the ceremony is that you can have daylight hours to take photographs outside, and then be able to enjoy your whole cocktail hour post-ceremony after the sun sets.
The ceremony and reception decor displayed by Veterans Terrace is just so stunning. The whole room felt like a scene out of a Christmas snow globe. After a beautiful ceremony, a few first dances, and some heartfelt speeches, it was time to dance the night away!
One tip I recommend to couples if you don’t plan on leaving your reception early but you want the fun exit shots from your photographer is to do a “controlled exit”! We did this just with the bridal party and parents and maybe froze outside for 5 minutes while we got some really fun photo opps and had a few laughs! Probably my favorite shot of the season was the very last few photos when it was just Gianna and Zach, out in the snow, enjoying each other’s company, soaking in all the emotions they experienced throughout the day.
Congratulations, Gianna and Zach! You guys are so perfect for each other and even though we only recently met, I’m excited to be invested in your entire future to come and watch you grow as a married couple! Enjoy “just a handful” (that’s an understatement) of my favorites from the big day!
