Sandie and TJ were married on a crisp, fall morning in September at St Rafael Catholic Church, a beautiful church in Milwaukee built in the early 1900s. This church holds a huge significance for Sandie’s parents, for it is the same church they were married in nearly 30 years ago.
Sandie and TJ met UW-Platteville while involved in the musical Guys & Dolls. As the musical season continued, they slowly found out just how much they had in common. They both loved seeing and being apart of productions, they both were in mixed and gender choirs, they both played an instrument and coincidentally enough they both were engineering students. Fast forward 5 years and now they both are enjoying life together, with their new kitten, Boots. They also recently started their own online health/wellness business, Healthy the Herbers Way where they help others on how to live life to the fullest physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Being so heavily involved in music during college, they naturally became friends with a lot of other performers and singers. So of course on their wedding day they would have a full choir singing in 4-part harmony of Amazing Grace at the ceremony, right? This choir was filled with some of Sandie and TJ’s closest friends and family and they sang so beautifully during the lighting of the unity candle, it was truly a special moment to experience.
What I love most about Sandie and TJ is their adoring love for one another. No matter what life throws at them, they roll with the punches with a great attitude and positive mindset. They also share a deep love for musical theater, which of course I respect and adore being a musical theater lover myself.
The afternoon reception was held at New Berlin Ale House. Nearly 200 of the bride and groom’s closest friends and family gathered inside the banquet hall to celebrate the newly married couple. After toasts and cake cutting, it was time to party! One thing I think more weddings need more of is Polka music … you didn’t think I’d say that, did you? But it’s true, there were ample amounts of Polka music played and everyone was smiling and laughing and having a fantastic time dancing along to it. Also, the same choir that sang at the ceremony gathered one more time to sing “Seasons of Love” from the musical Rent at the reception.
Sandie and TJ decided on a surprise honeymoon, and at the reception, there was a small box for guests to drop in their favorite USA destination. Sandie and TJ will randomly draw one of those answers and plan a spontaneous adventure. I can’t wait to hear where they’ll go! In the meantime, I hope newlywed life treats them well. I felt so honored to be there to photograph their very special day!!
